Lignosulphates Concrete Admixture
Lignosulfonate can be used in concrete for two different purposes: plastification of stiff concrete to enhance its flowability, pourability and workability, or water-reduction. By volume, the largest admixture used in the construction industry is lignosulfonate. A dose of cement weight 0.2-0.3% can reduce the rate of water consumption 10-18% and improve the workability of concrete, improve project quality. In Summer, they can inhibit the slump loss. Economically, 1 ton of Lignosulphonate can save 30-40 tons of cement in the practice of construction.
As Dispersing Agent - lignosulfonates reduce the amount of water required to form plastic ad workable mixtures. Since the water required is less, the resultant concrete is of increased density, better uniformity, higher compression strength and better durability.
As Retarding Agent - Where concrete needs to remain fluid over extended periods of time, lignosulfonates are used to retard the setting time of concrete as improver of cement plastification, flowability, pourability, and workability. With the addition of small quantities of accelerators or retardants, these properties of concrete could be predetermined. The amount of air entraining admixture can be reduced from the normal when it is applied.
In pre-cast concrete- It results in a concrete with good workability but a lower water/cement ratio and corresponding. By far, ready-mix concrete represents the largest application for lignosulfonates. Their plasticizing effect is used to produce concrete with an improved pourability at the job-site. In pre-cast concrete, lignosulfonates are used to obtain high-strength concrete. Typical dosages of lignosulfonates in concrete are 0.1– 0.3% by weight of cement.
